King Torta

When you’re driving through North Plains, Oregon, and the craving for authentic, over-the-top Mexican comfort food hits, there’s one name that locals throw out without hesitation—King Torta. Located at 10190 NW Glencoe Rd, this humble, unassuming spot has become a go-to destination for anyone in the know who’s after seriously satisfying Mexican sandwiches, or as you’d guess from the name, tortas that don’t mess around.

Open every day from 9:30 AM to 9:30 PM (except Sundays), King Torta stays true to its roots with bold flavors, generous portions, and no shortcuts. If you’re hunting for “best tortas near Portland,” or searching around for legit Mexican food in Washington County, this spot punches well above its weight class—no flashy storefront, no frills, just pure culinary substance.

Let’s start with the obvious: the tortas here are massive. Not “slightly bigger than a sandwich” massive. We’re talking two hands, hope-you’re-hungry, might-need-a-nap-after kind of big. The bread is the real deal—lightly crisped on the outside, fluffy on the inside, with just enough chew to hold together layers of seasoned meat, creamy avocado, grilled onions, jalapeños, and melty cheese. It’s a perfect vehicle for flavor, and trust me, you’ll want to taste every layer.

One of the house favorites is the Torta de Pastor—marinated pork cooked until it’s tender and just caramelized at the edges. Add some tangy pineapple, a spread of refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, and you've got a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, creamy, and savory in every bite. But if you want to take things up a notch, the King Torta Especial is where it’s at. Packed with multiple meats (carne asada, chorizo, and pastor in one), it’s a flavor bomb that feels like a full-course meal between two slices of bread.

For folks who want something other than tortas, the street tacos and burritos don’t play second fiddle. Their asada tacos come hot off the grill with crispy edges, topped simply with cilantro, diced onions, and salsa. The burritos are fully loaded, but never sloppy, and you can get them wet-style with red or green sauce for extra kick. They also serve quesadillas and nachos that are anything but afterthoughts—perfect for sharing, or not.

Don’t skip the salsas either. They have a full range from mild to fiery, and each is clearly made in-house. The red salsa has depth and smokiness, while the green salsa brings that bright tomatillo-acidic note that balances the richness of the meats. If you're someone who judges a taqueria by its salsa bar, King Torta passes with flying colors.

Drinks? They’ve got all your aguas frescas covered. From horchata to tamarindo and jamaica, the flavors are spot on, not overly sweet, and served ice cold. And for those who prefer something carbonated, the fridge is stocked with classic Mexican sodas like Jarritos and Coke in glass bottles—because let’s be honest, it just hits different.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of tortas or just curious after seeing the line of locals waiting outside, King Torta delivers on its promise of big flavors and bigger portions. And while North Plains might not be the first place you think of for top-tier Mexican food, this restaurant makes a strong case for putting it on the map.

Everything is made to order, the staff is efficient and friendly, and the prices are more than fair given the portion sizes. It's the kind of place where the food does all the talking—where you unwrap your meal and instantly know you made the right call. No gimmicks. Just food that tastes like it was cooked with purpose.

For those searching Google Maps late at night for “authentic Mexican tortas near me” or wondering where to grab flavorful, filling food without driving into Portland, King Torta is that hidden-away spot that turns one-time customers into regulars.

We were literally just driving by and thought we'd stop and give this a try. I had a King Torta and it as delicious. The soft on the inside, crispy on the outside bread with pork carnitas as excellent. It's a small setting, most people coming in were ordering to go, but since we live no where close, we sat. Not a great ambiance, but we love our experience either way.

This is my go-to for Mexican take out. One of the BEST places to get Mexican food in Oregon. Called-in an order a little before 1:00 on a Tuesday (carne asada burrito for me, cheeseburger and fries for the kiddos), and it was ready in 15 minutes like the person said. Their carne asada burrito is comparable in flavor to California's best. *Other best carne asada burrito in Portland is from Tienda Santa Cruz (St. John's) IMO. The kids crushed the fries and cheeseburger after I scraped off the good stuff - lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, thousand island. Support this authentic gem of a mom & pop shop! Directly across the street, facing Torta King, is a jealous, corporate-ass looking T@c0 B3ll. Eat at Torta King!

Isn't the fanciest place but the food is delicious. Order yourself and pickup your order at the counter. No outside seating but a lot of indoor seating. No alcoholic beverages but a large selection of sodas. A quiet restaurant even when full of customers-everyone was busy eating.

Authentic Mexican food! Tonight I was a first timer with my wife. We order regular chicken tacos, fajita tacos and some tacos so good! The service was nice and quick. The lady who worked the register told us what to order which was super helpful. We will define back because my wife and I love some authentic Mexican food.

I've stopped in here a few times over the years. This place has been here forever. Right on the main drag heading into North Plains but the building is easily missed if you aren't looking for it. Circa 1950's non-descript building with muted signage. Suits me as I hate crowded diners. They have a great breakfast burrito. It's massive and very tasty. Prices are decent and the food here is as Mexican as it gets. A tad hot for this anglo but I survive. Nice folks. I assume it's a family business. Friendly, efficient and the place is immaculately clean. There's a Taco Bell right across the street. I wonder how they stay in business with the King as competition. Mostly locals inside any time I've been there. Latinos mostly. If you are craving truly authentic Mexican fare this place will suit you well.
